COMO Uma Ubud, Bali Amazing experience!

We stayed in a Garden Pool villa for 4 nights on the first part of a trip to Bali.
The best part of the Como Uma Ubud is the amazing staff, they are so friendly and go out of their way to greet you, check on you, make sure you have absolutely everything you need.
The villa was beautiful, keep in mind the bathroom and bedroom are in separate areas, so you have to “go outside” and then across to visit the bathroom from the bedroom. The wardrobe etc are also located in the bathroom area.
Breakfast daily was absolutely delicious and cannot be faulted. We also ate at the italian restaurant on our arrival evening (Uma Cucina) which was great. Food at the bar by the pool was also fantastic. We ate at Kemiri for the Comos weekly Indonesian night (complete with dancers) and were not really thrilled with the food there unfortunately.
We also had appointments at the spa for treatments/massage and everything there was professional and a great service.

The pool in our villa was unfortunately absolutely freezing cold and we only used it once, therefore if we were to return we would not bother with the expense of a pool villa. The main pool was still cold but tolerable for a decent swim. There were always plenty of beds available around the main pool to relax, just getting a bit busy in the late afternoons.
Heating of the pool villas would be a great idea, as Ubud is quite cool with jungle areas.
The gym is quite small and one treadmill was out of order. Visiting early in the morning means you may have to wait to go in.
The shuttle to town is a great idea, but we found ourselves wishing it was more often, particularly if you wanted to head out for dinner, the timings were quite off.
Grab is fortunately easy and cheap to use in Ubud.
Ubud town is about 20-25min walk away – however the streets can be difficult to negotiate which makes a short walk more lengthy (Watch carefully where you are walking) and theres a hill to walk up when you are coming back to the Como.

A 5 star experience like no other. This is coming from a couple that has experience big western 5 star chains ( EG Marriot, Intercontinental, Sofitel, etc). The view is amazing as expected, however the standout pleasure was the personal touch from all the staff. All staff were passionate with their care and genuine with their attention. I believe that is what parted this resort from others that may even cost more.

A special shout out to all the butlers and waiters/waitresses. An even bigger shout out to Ngurah from reception for extra attention at all hours to make sure him and his staff goes above and beyond for our experience. Again, this is an experience we have never had before and certainly sets the bar high.

The resort and the room were very pretty, the pool villa was lovely but stairs everywhere so not suitable for mobility challenged. The staff were all very young and had no senior direction which might explain the poor service and laughable experiences we found during our stay. The 4 poster bed creaks every time you move and the wooden door to the external bathroom wouldn’t close properly, requiring slamming to close it. Not so good in the middle of the night. We were first greeted by a waiver we needed to sign exempting the resort of all blame for injury or death, and making us liable for any breakages or damage. We found several things wrong in the room and wonder if others had hidden the damage for that reason. One outside lounge chair fell apart the first time we sat on it. The bathroom sink was blocked. There was a major attempt to upsell. We had a Trip-A-Deal special which included some meals, drinks and a massage, but they denied it was for all guests and charged accordingly. Beware of small print! The free shuttle to Ubud only runs when prebooked. We prebooked a shuttle back to the hotel after having dinner in Ubud and they forgot us, leaving us stranded and wet after a downpour of rain. Luckily the next shuttle driver an hour later rescued us. No apology from the 5 staff at reception when we returned dripping wet. “Communication error” was all they could say. We requested our free cocktail and they told us to go upstairs to the restaurant (dripping wet). We asked them to bring us towels and the cocktails to the lobby as we were going to our room. The pool is icy cold despite the hot humid weather. The rice terrace walk is just a stroll to the field next door for around 10 minutes – skip it and visit the rice terraces on a tour. Building construction next door is very noisy and intrusive but stops around sunset. All noise echoes in the valley. The resort is out of town and you will need a taxi or the shuttle to get around. One guest we spoke with broke her arm on the wet slippery surface and was flying home early.
Would never go back and would not recommend.

Absolutely beautiful accommodations just outside of central Ubud. I stayed in the valley pool villa which overlooked the jungle below and was able to catch the edge of the sunrise every single day. Breakfast was delicious and could be served either in the restaurant or in your room – I opted for the room as it was lovely to dine by the pool. Rooms were clean and had thoughtful touches like the flower arrangement upon arrival. Staff were great and accommodating as well. The only thing I would warn future travelers is that this place is a bit far removed from central Ubud – I opted to walk the Campuhan Ridge walk to get into town (about 20-25 minutes walking distance to Jalan Raya Ubud) and did not call for Gojek or taxis during my stay. You’ll need your phone flashlight or an actual flashlight if you are to do this at night since the ridge walk is not lit. But the accommodations were well worth the trek into town hence I would not hesitate to recommend this place if you’re up for the walk and want to stay in a stunning villa with your own private pool.
